Review of Sharpening with Leonard Lee DVD

by Scott Bonder

I bought this DVD and am very happy I did. It is a companion to Mr. Lee's book, The Complete Guide to Sharpening.

The DVD is broken into chapters so you need not watch the whole thing or fast forward hoping to find what you are looking for. Each type of tool (turning, planes, carving, etc) is in its own chapter. Also, the DVD includes some information in text format on various jigs and guides you can get from, not surprisingly, Lee Valley. (Oddly, it does not include the Veritas sharpening system, but I digress. (Ed. note: Rob Lee of Veritas has indicated a new and less expensive version of the Veritas system will be available later this summer.))

Mr. Lee does a darn good job of showing the techniques described in his book. He also spends a good amount of time telling you how to save money on sharpening materials. Overall, this is an outstanding video made all the better by the use of DVD format.
