Veritas Chamfer Jig Mini-Review

Doug Ball. This is a small, clever tool that works exceedingly well. If you happen to have the Veritas low angle block plane (with the adjustable toe piece), this simple jig will allow you to cut beautiful chamfers of any width up to 1/2". The jig substitutes for the normal toe piece, aligning two aluminum guide pieces at 45 degrees to the plane blade. Setting the gap between the two guide pieces determines the width of the chamfer. Pretty simple. In my first trial run, it worked flawlessly on walnut and cherry, although long grain was predictably easier than end grain.

I found it to be a really elegant way to ease edges on shelves, etc. This is another wonderful little innovation from the folks at Lee Valley. (No affiliations, etc)
