There were a couple of years where many manufacturers had problems with substandard capacitors used in VFD's. The other issue with capacitors on VFD's is they need to be serviced if they sit on the shelf too long before being energized. If you have a piece of equipment that has capacitors integrated into the power supply of the equipment and you let it sit idle for years without running it, you run a risk of blowing the capacitors when you energize the equipment with line voltage power.. "Reforming" the capacitors is a process where they apply a reduced voltage across the capacitor to "reform" the capacitive elements in the rolled layers of conductive and insulative materials inside of each capacitor. Surges, Spikes and Harmonics can also cause problems with sensitive VFD electronic components.
