Turning

Subject:
How to Soften Wood

Doug Reynolds
A friend gave me a nice log of monkey puzzle from which to turn a hollow form. I usually rough turn hollow forms from green wood. Turns out this log is very dry and very hard. I sharpen my cutter frequently. Is there a way to slightly soften the interior to make the hollowing a little easier? I was thinking a spritz of mineral spirits or something. It's about to get the better of me.

TIA, Doug
