is that similar to bobbin lace?

A relative of mine (very well off, but now deceased) who did the scherenschnitte took up bobbin lace and all I can recall of it is that you could bury 20 hours in it and have a little bit of lace with the assumption that many would contribute bits to be sewed together as you say.

I have to admit it looked fantastic, but the fascination in the details was the making.

I think when lamps with wheat carved into the glass got removed, the lace curtains went with them.
