..my black japanned 020 is a later stanley version.

I had a nickel plated version long ago, sold it, and admit I don't use this one but having sold a 113 (or two?) and a plated 020, I'm keeping the one I have to prevent buying another one.

Check the connection points and make sure nothing looks broken (where the sole is connected at rivets, etc, and before and after the mouth) and then if it's not too rusty, run the sole profile up and down. If it moves up and down evenly in front and back and nothing looks broken, that's good.

It's common for them not to work right, and when that's the case, they're not worth much.
