metal vs wood threads

I assume that for the same diameter, thread design, etc. that a metal bolt/nut pair will apply more force than a wooden pair (assuming equal torque applied.) Is there some formula, or even a rule of thumb, that indicates how much larger a wooden pair should be to match the smaller metal pair?
