Deflecting vs. letting go ()

I think that pretty much sums it up, but interestingly, the 26c3 gives up no top level hardness to also be agreeable at lower hardness levels. It just seems like it'll have a wide range where it works well.

Testing of the various chisels is same mallet, same stick of wood, same width of chisel (within reason) and same sharpening method.

I guess to the credit of the unicorn method, I thought 52100 was closer to the ward chisel than it was, but using them one next to the other proved me wrong.

Down the road, I can leave a 52100 chisel very very hard and see what happens. at 350F temper, it will still hold on to a developing burr when it's pushed.

When I temper files and O1 at 350F, they are always chippy, but 26c3 worked fine and 52100 didn't show any chippy nature at all - still all deflection.
