It's subtle in the picture I guess. But you can feel it with your fingertip.

Strange thing, this whole learning deal. You find stuff you didn't expect to find (I thought 52100 would just be tops, that it would be strong and not deflect and then not chip, but instead, it deflects at reasonably high hardness when the "not-tough" steel chisels just let little bits go and that's it.

it's as if the very tip of the 52100 chisel starts to deflect a little and then it really propagates, because the chisel in this picture isn't hard, but it's not that soft, either, and the steel doesn't lack strength. I think its toughness actually gets it in more trouble.

A little early to declare 26c3 super great in one chisel (like white steel, I think it's probably not suitable for the average drawbridge lever style beginner), but pleased with the dryness and the simplicity of it for heat treat, and that it doesn't air harden. All kinds of stuff to like. More carbon = better forge weld, so nothing missing there on the bolster.

Thinking back now to every single thing that needs to have a thinner edge with strength (razors, etc), it's always a very plain steel and I've never had a razor made out of anything other than plain carbon steel that really excelled at keeping the edge thin and damage free.
