52100 experimentation continues *PIC*

David Weaver
Battling a huge complex migraine yesterday and into today - the noncomplex part usually lasts a few days after the "complicated" part occurs.....

That said, 52100 continues to be a really pleasant surprise - it's relatively easy to work with and get good results and it seems to be very stable in the quench. Its movement would probably be considered a lot for an industrial/machining operation (like boutique manufacturers), but it's a tiny fraction of the amount that files move, and it seems to forge weld pretty easily.

I don't have any chisels cut in the other option, just blanks hammered (that being 26c3, which seemed more necessary to try prior to 52100 turning out better than expected).

The bottom 3 are chisels for me (two tempered back a little bit further) and the top four (two finished, two that need to be finish ground) are set with relatively large bolsters to be used without ferrules. The very narrow chisel (about 0.11) came right out of the quench without any significant warp. With files, it would've been a complete gamble, or beyond a gamble (warping in more than one direction).
