The difference in performance, on a given Oashita stone, between O1 and A2 has to dowith reversion during tempering - if there is a localized overshoot in temp, annealing occurs and Austenite is reformed. Likewise large carbide inclusions could fracture out of the matrix
and are unlikely to form in alloys used for 01.

It is my suggestion that this happens after the blank is stamped and tempered, when overspeed grinding raises temperatures in the narrowest cross sections.

Unfortunately testing and verification of this are way above my paygrade.
