If the back is prepared without serrations going to the edge, the buffing serrations at the edge should be gone.

No need to do anything with the wire edge on the block plane, it'll just come off just like a chisel.

My 18 irons are made of cheese - they are *really* hard to get off of the irons hand honing just flipping an iron back and forth (which I am generally good at) because even the lightest honing of the bevel side on the washita cuts a little bit more of the edge and prolongs the burr.

It should be really quick to address if you can manage to find PSA roll and a surface to use it on. I've never been too sold on spray adhesive and paper, it never works as well as the psa roll, but have to admit that I can't find any inexpensive PSA roll on amazon right now (if you don't already have it - often there's sungold or some other off brand for about $11 or $12 for a roll, and it's something you'll find a use for sooner or later).
