Some context

The reason I'm interested in this for plane blades is because I've been trying to buff them (on the bevel side) just a minimal amount, to avoid possible clearance issues with bevel down planes.

However, I've noticed under the scope that sometimes the edges aren't quite uniform after buffing. I think this is because before I go to the buffer, the blade still has some burr hanging on, even after going back and forth a few times with the bevel and back on the Sigma 6000. I think that perhaps the reason that I still have some burr is because of the slight convexity on the back of the blade. An ura on the back of the blade would make it easier to sharpen on stones all the way to edge and get rid of any burr; then I could buff for a small amount of time.

With chisels, I haven't really had issues with this, because an edge that's not perfectly straight doesn't matter as much as it does for a plane, and because chisels can be buffed for longer (resulting in a straighter, more uniform edge) without any real drawbacks.
