I could not have gleaned those insights from that mountain of work.

The pressure situation on the ARK stone and the picture strongly suggests that this stone moves metal was well as removes metal.

I have had my nose in a geochemistry book of late. The chapter on the deposition of silica that was biogenic revealed that the gross geology of the ARK deposits is common world wide. The rock is smushed shells/skeletons of organisms that extracted silica from the sea. It seems remarkable that ARK is the only world location where the details resulted in a superior sharpening stone.
