Hand Tools
David Weaver
I have no idea what bloggers have to do with the fact that I have two chisels that have identical tool marks from end to end, side to side, and even on the small bevel ground on them at the factory.
You do realize that you're arguing that I have a chisel that is finished (two, in fact) identically all the way up to the bolster, on the roundover, on both sides of the bevel and on the sides. Everywhere. Neither shows any sign of having been on a stone or ever having a honed edge put on them (The edge has no final apex) and you're more or less arguing that someone went to the trouble to make identical tool marks on the roundover to hide that they were applying a roundover, that jim bode has a little used IH sorby chisel that's done the same way, and another dealer in england who more or less deburred a chisel has the same profile.
That somehow against all of these odds, it's not done at the factory based on what marples did or what you've read since 1973.
I don't know what blogger you have a row with, but if you ever use one of these chisels in a deep mortise (not a furniture mortise unless you're making beds), it will be instantly clear how valuable roundover is on a chisel with as tall of a cross section as these).
