I agree that it seems a major strength of the unicorn profile is the both its ability to strengthen a low bevel angle allowing for easy wood penetration and durability and the rapidity and repeatability of setup.
Additionally I concur that mortising is not the ideal place for the low bevel angle followed by buffing, however it did provide an intense wear environment.
