I'd guess about 5 seconds total over a couple of passes, but there is a touch issue involved (you can speed up the buffer by pushing harder). Everyone will have to get the feel right, but proof of success is easy given the two objectives.
It looks like it's approximately 5 thousandths of worn area or a little more with significant steepness occurring only at the very edge, matching my original comments about Cliff Stamps discussion ("pushing the failure point"), combined with doing as little of it as possible.
This turns out to be the amount of work more or less that gets rid of the wire edge.
It's really a spectacularly lucky little confluence of circumstances.
