Here's my attempt to get profile images of the chisel. I needed a narrow chisel to fit sideways in the microscope, so I used a 1/4-inch wide Narex Richter. This time I decided to simplify the sharpening procedure: I used a 1000-grit diamond plate, and then buffed with the soft cotton wheel and white rouge (I'm liking the soft wheel better than the stiff sisal one). This could be done in 30 seconds.

The diamond plate leaves some pretty deep scratches (the scratches are not nearly as consistent as the Shapton Pro 1000) and a hefty burr. Compared to previous chisels where I used the 4000-grit stone, this one required more buffing to remove the burr. I briefly touched the back of the chisel to the side of the wheel to remove any possible remaining burr. This is what the bevel side looked like.

This is the sharpest I've ever gotten a chisel. It was capable of cutting hairs without touching skin, which is something I've never been able to do before.

I followed Bill's suggestion of taking profile pictures of the blade. I tried illuminating it from the side, but you can't really see much detail of the edge.

So for the rest of the pictures, I used the microscope's backlight. Here it is with the 4x objective:

Another one with the 10x, but with a tiny flashlight that I hand held. It's a much smaller light source. The edge looks a bit more rounded in this picture, but I don't know which picture provides a more accurate idea of the actual shape.

I also tried using the 40x objective, but I couldn't really get it to focus well. Additionally, the rounded appearance of the edge might be in part from blurring. I'm including the picture here, but I wouldn't draw any conclusions from it.

There's one other way I tried to get a sense of the shape of the edge. I placed the blade under the scope, then I held the light directly horizontal from the edge, and then slowly raised the light so that the reflection would change. You can see the reflection slowly move from the very edge, until it hits the main bevel and lights up the whole thing. It sort of looks like a sunrise seen from space. I can't include a movie in this post, so here's a link.

The steepest angle that can be seen with this setup is 45 degrees, since the blade was resting flat on the stage and if the light is lower than directly horizontal, the path from the light to the blade is blocked by the stage.

I don't know if the shape of this blade is ideal -- it performed extremely well cutting hair, but I haven't tested it for durability. That said, I don't have any reason to think it would be substantially different from other blades I've prepared in a similar way.
