looking at the picture - my original comment is easier to see (About the teeth needing to be filed more aggressive).

Funny how you notice things in pictures, especially with another saw present, that you don't see in person.

The small maebiki appears to have had its rake adjusted a whole lot over time due to filing of the teeth (the top one doesn't suffer the same - the gullet work has been done more carefully, or it's still as stamped from the maker.

I will track down a knife edge file for the smaller saw and correct the rake. the gullets are less than 60 degrees by a fair amount, so I don't have a file on hand that can fit in there and do heavy work at the same time.
