>Obviously you both learned that pumice and rottenstone aren't used on bare wood. The same is true for the dark wet/dry sandpapers. The dust fills the pores and looks terrible. These are polishing tools to polish the finish. Even tripoli and White diamond are not good on bare wood. Tripoli will fill the pores of Ash and color it and white diamond will do the same to Walnut and ruin it. I will skip the white diamond when buffing walnut even when it has a light finish. I skip the tripoli on light woods. If you fill the pores with finish or a pore filler then you can use any of the above.
