Time to replace tools ()

Reed Gray
I bought a name brand gouge a year or so ago to try the flute shape out. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with it because it kept going dull very quickly. then discovered it was made from standard M2 HSS. I have not turned with anything but V10, which Doug uses, and M42HSS which Dave Schweitzer of D Way tools uses, for years. They cost a bit more, but you get far more for your money. Both are really good men to deal with. I can't really tell any difference in the cutting abilities of their tools.
