What is a "double iron"? *NM* () Warren in Lancaster, PA
A double iron is a plane iron and a cap iron used to control tear out on woods with grain reversals. They can be screwed together as in a Bailey plane or just wedged together as in some Japanese planes. In experienced hands, the double iron eliminates the need for high angle planes.
