I haven't seen the wood, either, but the tree - identical in appearance to Derek's - grows prolifically in Southern California. Often seen as 'Boulevard' trees. They're beautiful in bloom, but messy otherwise. Also, the branches are quite brittle and are easily subject to wind damage - especially when the Santa Anas blow.
