Octagonal Base for rock coffee table *PIC*

There have been a lot of pictures posted here of late and none of them have been something to sit on, eat from or a place to store your socks.

This was to be a simple base for a circle of granite (really is granite) to replace the wooden box it currently sits on. Not a tall challenge to improve that situation. Somebody showed me a plant stand with a spoked interior and I was smitten. The simple plan for a base became this puzzle. It was interesting assembling it for gluing. To my astonishment it all came together well.

walnut, burnt umber artist pigment, shellac. May overcoat with varnish....undecided.
