The hate for 6s ()

Steve Voigt
I never understood the hate for 6's either. My 6 was the last metal bench plane that I phased out of my rotation.
The 5-1/2 is a different story. It seems to be a thing these days, particularly amongst non-practitioners of the cap iron, to combine a 5-1/2 (heavy plane, wide iron) with a high angle frog and a 10° back bevel. To me, this is the woodworking equivalent of a hair shirt, and contributes greatly to my aversion to this plane.
