I may have jumped the gun about the durability of the xhp iron in the rosewood neck blank.

This is the side of the peghead planed flat. If you enlarge the pictures and look at the pores, you can see that it's loaded with silica. No plane iron will tolerate a lot of this, but you can, of course, just sharpen more
