Re: Another iron provided - CPM M4 *LINK*

Hi Phillip,

This little blade was made in 2009 by Stephen Thomas, of Elmira, NY. This is the same Stephen Thomas who designed and made several of his "loopy infill" planes. The blade has a short, maybe 1-1/2" long CPM M4 tip that is butt welded to a mild (?) steel rest of the blade. The blade fits my 102 plane and is about 5" overall in length. I was told by Stephen that the CPM M4 material was very expensive, hence the welded approach. I'm pretty sure he told me that the blade was sent out and professionally heat treated. Cryogenically treated afterward, I can't remember.

I think he made some blades with CPM M4 for his loopy infill planes. Maybe someone else can remember...

John
