There's a limit most have in free time, resources and ambition devoted to making things. The pursuit tends to generate cyclic interest (and posts) as a new enthusiast finds a forum.

Most of us will make a dining table, maybe a rocking chair and gifts for family.
After that, the shop (and all its expensive trappings) gathers the wrong kind of dust.

Participation peaked when the major print rags had plenty of readers, and current articles became the point of discussion.

As mentioned above, there has been an inordinate amount of squabble over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
