I'm going to make that style of knife sooner or later, and I think I may even try to laminate one (though that's a bit of a tall order).
In this case, I think I might like to use this knife as my recycle bin knife (cutting cardboard), and just want a little bit more diameter. Not so much grip, just diameter.
I'm surprised that so far, it's not easy to just go out to ebay and buy a roll of genuine rattan. There is a roll of rubber synthetic rattan for a princely sum, but I'm sure I could ruin that quickly.
