Be curious if you can spot any difference in mine (pictures in a thread above). If the wood had no figure, it would be less stark, and even so, it's subtle, and not the kind of thing I'd expect a random person to pick up on (just like I wouldn't expect a random person to understand why attaching a straight line to a quarter circle is not as good looking as a continuous gradual curve over the same area.

That said, I can usually drive off any people inquiring about furniture (it happens to me from time to time) when I describe material costs being equal to or greater than ikea's finished products. I don't have real customers, just people who think you might be interested in building something for them for next to nothing.
