I don't think there's all anything (a case for all in any situation), but do think the plane is a time saver for someone making one off pieces. If the finish looks a little better, that's a bonus.

I think I could probably ramp up and sell a few planes if I wanted to (I don't generally), but couldn't tell you much about customers for anything else, because I don't make anything else at a level where I could sell it and get anything for my time. I think that kind of stuff is more of a relationship business, anyway. there's a shop here or there around here trying to sell stuff like cutting boards and G&G type furniture, or other sort of similar stuff. The ones that hang around are those that convince customers that something really routine is special, and it's more about shop atmosphere than it is the piece.
