Subject:
Too dark.

Derek Cohen (in Perth, Australia)
Hi John

For about 20 years I worked on a bench I built out of dark Jarrah. It was OK, and I was used to it, but about 5 years ago I replaced it. The current bench has a top from European Oak. The difference (to my aging eyes) is truly night and day. The old dark top would soak up the light. The light top provides good visibility even when the light is less.

My suggestion is to use your Walnut for the base, and build a light top from something else. I like this colour combination, which is what I have ... Jarrah base and Oak top.

Photo below taken shortly after my bench was completed ...

Regards from Perth

Derek
