Several days ago I posted about pocket knives, and my friend Konrad Sauer wrote offline to tell about a knife he was given by a friend. This friend is a very experienced craftsman, who happens to be way into Japanese tools and steel. Anyway, the gift knife was a Fallkniven U2, one of the less expensive models, but using this laminated stainless steel, where the inner cutting steel is powder metallurgical. The message from Konrad was this--if you want a steel that can take it, this is the thing. The knife guys are also talking about the Japanese cobalt stainless that Fallkniven uses.
Link to Fallkniven's discussion of the steel they use:

Elsewhere on their site, they show the knives available, fixed and folding.
FWIW.
