Thanks for the info. I figured that was the last generation due to the retaining screw on the front infill. They probably learned the hard way that the beech needs that screw to stay in place in the long run.

I have one a bit older than that on the way, as well as a very new little used panel plane (that I intend to copy, soften the woodwork lines, omit the adjuster and use something other than beech for the infill).

Whatever the age of the most recent one I showed first, it is actually quite nice in use (with the cap iron properly set). Capable of smoothing anything (though, so is a stanley plane) and not heavy or bulky, even though the woodwork is a bit chunky on the back.
