Criteria for deciding when to sharpen () Warren in Lancaster, PA
When I read something like this (waiting for the plane to stop cutting before sharpening), I have to wonder if a guy gets a tune up when the car stops running, or waits for a blow out to get a new tire. Does he feed his dog regularly or wait until the animal can't stand up any more?
I think it is a very clumsy and slow way of working. Constantly working with dull tools encourages poor habits and poor technique. I can't imagine learning to discern subtleties of sharpening when almost all of one's experience is with poor quality.
