Same experience

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
Back in the stone age when I used oil stones I found that a lubricant of lower viscosity resulted in better gunge removal. That said, I have not used this ancient abrasion technology since discovering faster means of metal abrasion.

As I recall, these stones seemed to come in two varieties. There was a soft variety that wore quickly but cut more quickly. And a hard version "India Stones" that I never experienced any wear on and cut slowly.

If someone has nostalgia for this technology I have a new 12 x 3" dual India in the box I'd love to sell. I bought it just before the discovery of how quick I could sharpen with the right grade of sand papers. All that was pre-diamond.
