Hand Tools Archive
I'm digging through some of my boxes of tools, and I found a Stanley No. 48 that was gifted to me by a family friend 20 years ago when they heard I was going to start woodworking. Like most, it's taken me a long time to get back toward hand tools.
My version of this plane is nickel plated. The plane has its fair share of rust on it. How can I clean it up while perserving what is left of the nickel finish? If that's simply not possible, what is the best way to remove both the nickel finish and the rust so I can japan it? (Some stanley no48's did some jappaned, and this will be a user). Thanks for any insight.
