Subject:
Some information on lamated blades

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
While at the GA meet we met a retired General Manager from Crucible Steel. Persons in his position get to satisfy their curiosity with some nice toys. He did a carbon analysis across a vintage laminated blade. What he found was carbon migrated from the high carbon layer into the soft layer during fabrication of the lamination, providing a gradient of hardness between the two kinds of steel. No doubt this carbon migration and hardness gradient leads to a more robust lamination.
