Subject:
Harbor freight tires, soft vise jaws

Bruce Mack
I have a mechanics vise which I mount on my workbench and use for tasks such as holding wood spoons while I shape them. Magnetic soft jaws often dislodged or lost their magnets despite attempts to glue them to the polyethylene substrate. A red !0 inch Harbor Freight Tire cost $8.00 and once bisected provided a treaded strip which glued nicely to the metal jaws with Goop. The vise holds irregular smaller wood objects securely now. Removal of the strips may be messy but I can see no reason to do so in my work.
