Subject:
Wood thread and tap & die

joe in a Cleveland suburb
Last night I watched the episode of the Woodwrights Shop where Roy and Chris Scharz made the Roubo bench vise thingy. They used a tap and die thing for the screws. One of them made the comment that it costs about fifty dollars and works well. I think it is the one Garret Wade sells.

I think I have read it doesn't work well though. Also, I don't know what size it was.

Does anybody have any opinions on this particular tool? And what size it might have been.

I know it's not a high end tool, but the price fits just right and for limited use, I wonder if it would be "good enough".

Thank you.
