Subject:
string making and leveling

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
1. Holly is sliced on band saw. Then thickness sanded to approximate thickness. Slicked to width with the marking gauge on the board shown. Then thickness refined by bulling through a sizer scraper.

2.A chisel or better yet a large sweep works for shaving the string level with the field. Final leveling is with a scraper. I mark the string as to which way it will shave best before installing it in the trough.

Other questions? I took a day class from Steve Latta that moved me up the string curve quickly.
