I found the wide cutting edge mostly useful in the sense that it allows a cross "slicing" cut on difficult wood which helps reduce tearout in some difficult grain.

I'd have to say that the most hours I've spent behind a drawknife was for pealing the bark off of fence rails.... Not exactly precision work.
