The topic of how to store KD lumber comes up from time to time. The attached picture shows how it is stored in commercial operations. The picture is at the Baillie lumber yard in SC. There is more than a million bdft of KD lumber in this building, dead packed.
The white tag on the corner of the packs provides the "tally" information- grade, bdft, thickness and species . You can see that the majority of this lumber is 16', the optimum length for minimum harvest and manufacturing cost.
