This is a photo of a trunnel, used in old houses or barns for M/T joints. It came from my Grandmother's house where she lived when she was a little girl (around 1880) - yellow pine. With the tapered tip (oblique cone) it might look like the drawbore pin that Joel is talking about, although of course this is wood, not iron.
