Indeed, higher cutting angle and the close set capiron are two different things that can be combined. You can add a tight mouth to that. A higher cutting angle works to prevent tearout because it reduces the lifting force on the shaving, the capiron works because the shaving is supported during the cut. they work from oposing sides of the shaving, so to speak. And at 50 degrees the extra force to push isn't too bad.
