I don't even know what people do with small stuff on power tools, that's definitely true. Do they order their work so that there's little chance of having small pieces to work with?
I never competently made much in my power tool phase, and what I did make was a lot of long trim and mitered corners and plywood carcases with glue and screws. Doing something even like a gradual curve was torture and required stuff like router templates, etc.
The guy I did woodworking with, I'll bet he and I would've solved as many of those as possible by starting with a larger stick and then cutting off the part we needed.
