Everyone can work differently, it's not like any of us are challenging the minions of computer powered power tools in terms of output.

I would've done both of the operations you showed with one plane, though.

You don't need the cap iron, but it would've sped up the process. that's where the contention comes on the forum, when someone says something like I just said there, but it's the case, because a second plane with a double iron or backing off the set of the first one would allow an equivalent finish level with a thicker shaving until the very last pass.
