***SURVEY: THE IDES OF JANUARY***

Ellis Walentine
Yes, folks, it's that time again -- time to toss out another contentious question for your thoughts and opinions. As usual we'll be distilling replies to their essence and sending them off to Woodworker West magazine, where our bi-monthly column "News & Views" has appeared for the past 15 years.

This time around, I would like to hear your musings on "making do," or getting by with less. Not everyone can afford every conceivable tool and machine, nor do many of us have the luxury of a large shop. So how do we manage to get things done. I'll be interested to hear some of your coping strategies. How have you arrived at the right mix of resources to accomplish what you want to accomplish? (Hint: It might involve outsourcing some things you can't do alone.) Has your formula changed over time? Do you adjust your ambitions to the tools at hand, or do you tool up to meet your ambitions?

We all get by with what we have. Let's hear your stories of how you do it.
