We're getting around to reinstalling some antivirus software on our Mac, after the Apple store wiped out everything but the Mac operating system, claiming this would repair the performance issues we were having.
Some reviews recommend Intego antivirus software. The standard package that Intego offers comes packaged with what they call "NetBarrier," which is some kind of firewall system that screens traffic coming into the computer from networks and interweb connnections. We run a very simple system at home: we have a computer, and my wife has an iPad. She has set up the computer and iPad to synch pictures between the two, but, other than that, the iPad talks to the wireless modem and the computer is hard-wired to it. Our sons use the wireless modem as well, and so do the TV and Roku box.
We're not sophisticated users, and I don't want to spend a lot of time fossicking about with software maintenance. So my questions are:
1. Do we need a firewall?
2. Has anyone set up this software, and is it easy for the simple-minded?
