Subject:
Rasp sharpening, what concentration?

John in NM
I have some nitric acid available to sharpen rasps and stuff. The stuff I was given is quite strong, so it will get diluted. I would like to make up a solution for rasps and then dilute the rest further for making ferric nitrate stain.

Any idea what a good concentration would be for sharpening rasps? 10%? 15%. My understanding is that a slower etch leads to fewer hydrogen embrittlement problems, but too weak and this is going to take more time than I'd like (up to a week would be ok).
